Team India was almost on the brink of losing 2nd ODI against hosts West Indies when Axar Patel played a crucial inning of 64*(35) which set the tone for India’s last over thrilling win.

Earlier West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran won toss and elected to bat first. The openers Shai Hope and Kyle Mayers 39(23) gave a decent start to West Indies with an opening stand of 65 runs. Later, Shai Hope’s 115(136), Sharmarh Brooks 35(36), and Nicholas Pooran’s 74(77) assisted hosts to set a big total of 311/6.

Chasing 312, India did not got a flying start to their innings as needed. At 79/3, India had already lost early wickets of Shikhar Dhawan 13(31), Shubman Gill 43(49), and Suryakumar Yadav 9(8). After this, Sanju Samson came in and set a partnership of 99 runs with Shreyas Iyer 63(71). After hitting his maiden fifty in ODI, Sanju Samson got dismissed in 39th over.

When chase looked easy, India lost wicket of Deepak Hooda 33(36). Hooda and Axar Patel made a crucial stand of 51 runs for sixth wicket. After this, team India kept losing wickets at regular intervals while Axar Patel continued hard hitting. At the end, Avesh Khan’s brief cameo with bat 12 runs off 13 balls also proved crucial in India’s win.

Finally, it was a maximum by Axar Patel on fourth ball of final over which sealed thrilling victory for India. India won the 2nd ODI by 2 wickets and 2 balls left. With this win, India has also sealed the series 2-0 in three-match ODI with one ODI left.
